The prizes in connection with the handicap chess tournament between Diuiedin and Timaru dvi ing the adjournment on Saturday night were presented by Mr Johnston, the vice-president (Mr A. R. Barclay, M.H.R., the president, being in Wellington). The first prize, a very handsome &et of Indian-caived ivory chess men, in glass stand, picssntcd by Mr Throp three years ago, was won by Mr R. A. Cleland, with r score of 13 points, being one first and two seconds. This being the third year of competition, the first scorer of 10 points to be the winner. Mr Johnston, in presenting the prize +o Mr Cleiand, congratulated him on winning such a handsome trcphy v Special prizes were ■©resented by the president (Mr A. If. Barclay, M.H.R ) and the two vice-presidents (Mr Johnston and Mr Wai saw (two prizes), the winners being Messrs Forsyth, Edwards, Allen, and Wiight, in that order. On the motion of Mr C'lelaad, a hearty vote of thanks was carried with acclamation to the donators of the piiaes.
The telegiaphic chess match with Qauiaru starts next Saturday ; and will be contimied on the two following Saturdays. The Olago Club will be represented by "Messrs R. A. Cleland, Balk, Edwards, Mouat, Lyclers, Warsaw, Porsyth, Crow, Hamel, Moody; emergency, Allen.
