AVONDALE.

Our correspondent has dealt with this meeting at considerable length, and a. few general comments are all that are needed from me. First, I present, the table of Winners of the Avondale Cup. 1890 Mr Fletcher's lngfrina... 7 0 2min 18 fee 18^1 Mr Ward's Tulloch ..6 7 2inin 37isec 1<:921 <: 92 Mr Willismso- 's Tulloch 7 8 2min 18 sec 1893 Mrßyei-i's 'Jul'orh ... 7 12 2miu £0 sec 1894 Mr Burkes Anna ntHo ... 7 2 2i»in 14 &ec ISPS Mr Burk«'s Aunsbelle „89 Smin 17 pec 1890 Mr Chsafe's fit. .Paul ... S 0 2min 21 see 1R97 Mr Chaafe's Sh Paul ... 9 2 i'min IHisec IS9B Mr Chaafe's S*. Paul ... 10 8 Smin lS^sec 1899 Mr llculston's R. Koign 8 2 2min )2Jseo 1900 Messrs Alison Bi-s'Toroa 6 12 2min 24 *.ec From this it will be seen that Toroa's is the slowest record for the race, being lljsec belund Record Reign's time last yeai'. Ido not think the Toroa party thought they had anything like a good thing on. If they had known that 2min 24sec would have won -they would have probably thrown in for a fair sta\-e. It will be further observed that tlhe Avondale Cup is a race of sequences. Tulloch and St. Paiil have each won three times, and Annabelle twice. I do not suppose there is another race in the colony that in 11 years has been won by only six horses. The Avondale Stakes was run this year for the second time. Lady Avon, by Soult, .won it last year : ancl now Nonette, by Seaton Delaval, pull's it off in 3|sec slower time. On Iho second clay the principal event was the Avondale Guineas, but from a caid of 12 only a trio elected to do battle for the prize. Beddington was made an odds-on favourite, and shortly after the fall of the flag ran up to Golden Rose, who had the advantage of a capital start. *The pair carried" on the running up to the escapes, where Golde-i Rose was seen to falter, and retired from the contest, leaving Landlock to challenge the leader. As the pair raced for the home turn it looked as if a boil-over would l)e the result, and Beddington's backers were in anything but a happy frame of mind, but Gallagher, sticking gamely to his mount, brought him home a winner by a couple of lengths under pressure. The winner was bred by hi> owners, Me«ir= L. D. and N. A. Nathan.
