DIAMOND WEDDING:
King Mahuta and party AA'ere Avelcomed by the Natives of Wellington district, Napier, West Coast, and Middle Island to tho number of some 200 at Sydney street sehoolroon this afternoon. Amongst those pre"- " sent were a large number of members of both Houses of the Legislature. Air Hen Hen, of Taupo, presided. The Avelcome Avas carried out m accordance with Maori custom. The Native Minister (the Hon. Mr Carroll) represented the GoA^ernment. The Hon. T. Duncan avs<s also present. CLants and addresses in the Native language at ere delivered by Messrs Carroll, Wi Pere, J'arata, Hone Heke, and amongst others Wikitoria Kemp, daughter of Major Kemp. The former hoped the King and chiefs of Waikato would forget the past troubles, le.Tv r e their isolation, and combine Avith tho ether Natives of the colony and Government; - in framing a measure for the welfare of the, race generally. Mahuta leplied to the welcome speeches . given by the chiefs, and agreed that there should be a new birth. If there had been . mistakes in the past they should be rectified. He had not come to obtain an advantage OA r er other tribes, but to act in the interests of all.
After speeches liacl been delivered all present Avere presented to Mahuta. -Al brass -band, Avhich accompanied the party, played, selections of music.
The dead body of another of the victims of the Maraenui disaster was thrown up on, the rocks at Whitianga, about two miles from Motu, on Thursday morning last. It was not; disfigured in any way, and was identified asi Tamahou, the son of Paratene Waewae, of Maraenui. This makes 11 bodie3 found out of 18 who were lost.

Mr and Mrs William Brash, sen., completed 60 yeaTS of married life on 21st August last. Mr and Mrs Brash were horn in the parish of Midcalder, Edinburgh county, in. 1816 and 1820 respectively. They sailed for Dunedin in the ship Three Bella in 1858. After living for a year and a-half in Dunedin, Mr Brash purchased a farm at Saddle Hill, about nine miles out of Dunedin, where they lived for 28 years. After living in Mosgiel for a while they removed to Ngapara, their three daughters being settled in North Otago. The family consists of one son (Mr William Brash, a much respected farmer at Mataura Island), and three daughters— Mrs James Pryde (Totara), Mrs Geo. Hutchison (Tokarahi), and Mrs Thomas M'Culloch (Ngapara). They have 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grand-children, there being four generations bearing the name of William Brash.
Killed in action at Winburg on August 27. Butler was a farmer at Beaconsfield ; his father resides at Bald Hill Flat.
