ONE -TREE POINT.

September 15.— Sickness is prevalent, the congealed blood of winter being roused from its sluggishness by the high temperature of the past month, much to the annoyance and discomfiture of all mortal beings. But gentle spring will be ushered in on the 23rd inst., and doubtless with it health and happiness, for could the concluding spring of the nineteenth centuiy be so uncharitable as to afflict the devoted loeoplc of this fair land, &o far away in our antipodean clane, with horrid little torments for which we have not the smallest respect. Dredging. — That gold exists m the Oteramika district there is not the slightest doubt, bui.' whether or not the mineral is in payable quantities is a matter upon which opinions vary. Having faith in the now field, several gentlemen are forming a company or syndicate for the purpose of dredging claims at the Oteramika, Gorge, where the results of the working will be watched with interest.

A Memorable Occasion. — It is commonly conceded that a prophet hath no honour in his own country, but it is otherwise with a soldier, a colonist, or an honest neighbour, who will always find favour with all good, fair, and impartial people. Proof of this was fully given at Eoslyn, Bush lagt wee^ when sevesal bm,-

dreds of friends, acquaintances, and wellwishers assembled to do honour to Sergeant James Fahey, who is again amongst us. The hall was gay with bunting, evergreens, and appropriate emblems, but of course proved far too small to accommodate the largest assemblage of j>eox:>le ever witnessed at Roslyn, while the tables bitterly lamented the heavy burden of eatables and drinkables x^ced upon them. The Mayor of Invercargill x»esided; and made a few remarks, but the sx^eech of the evening was delivered by the Rev. Mr dimming, who recounted many incidents cf war, x>aid a high tribute to Irish valour and fiiendship, and in humorous terms euJogised the guc^t of the evening. Mr W. Halhday, J.P., on behalf of the people of Roslyn and the surrounding districts, presented Mr Fahty with a valuable gold watch and chain suitablj' inscribed, which gifts ho gracefully acknowledged. Danciag was kept up with great gusto by over 100 couples till 4 in the morning, Messrs Joseph Irving, J. Calvcit, and R. Cloughly officiating as M.C's.
