A largely attended meeting of merchants and others on Thursday resolved to urge upon Parliament the strong claims of the district north of Auckland to be opened up by an extension of the railway system, and to request the Government \o give an assurance thai they will be prepared as far as practicable to expend on the construction of the North of Auckland railway at least £100,000 during the present financial year.
