FARM AND DAIRY NOTES.

The annual meeting? of shareholders in cooperative dairy companies are now clo=e at hand. From wl-al ye can learn, the reportsand balance sheets of co-operative dairy factories in this district will furnish particularly , pleasant reading to shaiehoklcrs. " j The Ngaire Dairy Company has decided to give a prize of £2 for the best aerator sub- . mitted to the judgment of its director". Effrc- , likeness, simplicity, and price will be the chief < points of consideration, and one not requii- , ing -a water supply will have a first claim on the attention of the -judge*. The aerator re- j ceiving the award will be recommended to suppliers.

A local farmer, who has just returned from a short visit to the Western District, informs us that the spring work is well advanced — even more so than is the case in these parts. Grass is coming away finely, and evidently, judging by the amount of wheat that is being sewn, the western season must be a bit earlier than the eastern. Our informant says he noticed plenty of turnips were- still to be eaten off, while stock all over seemed to bo very scarce; but what he did see were of very good quality and in excellent condition. A considerable amount of grain is still in stack, although a lot has been threshed out during the past few weeks — no doubt, due to the spurt that has recently taken place in oat values.
