Games.
Game played at Otago Chess Club, August 11, 1900: —
(a) Notwithstanding the authority of Steinitz we venture to doubt the value of the move, and prefer 5 b-k 2. (b) Here p-q kt 4 appears preferable. (c) Black has now a difficult position, owing Lo his sixth move, and has to defend with great care. (d) q-k b 4 deserves consideration. The queen is not well placed at q 3, and the threat to take X R P is easily met. (c) R-K 7 appears more effective. (p) White gets two rooks for his Q, and has a. lit against a bishop for the end game, and has perhaps rather the best of it. (g) A good move which secures a draw. Game played at Otago Chess Club, Atigusl 29, 1900: — KINGS BISHOP'S G VMDIT.
(a) A bold sacrifice, and apparently sound.
