A new .steamer with a carrying capacity of 1000 tons deadweight on a draught of 14-£ ft, which was originally laid down by Messrs Carmichaei, M'Leau, and Co., and afterwards taken over and finished by Messrs Russell and Co., of Port Glasgow, has been sold to the Union Sream Ship Compai.v of New Zealand, for about £20,000. She has been named the Kotuku. When the vo-sol was. originally conIraoted for with Ai.et.-rs Carmichael and M'Lean in October, 1898, for Norwegian owners, the contract price was about £15,000.
