THE AMERICAN TURF.
For the Brighton Handicap, of 5000dol, a mile and a-quarter, run on tne 7th July, thestarters were Ethelbert 1291b, Kinley Mack 1271b, Admiration 1151b, Imp 1291b, The Kentuckian 1091b, Greyfeld 1021b, Raffaello 1161b, Standing 1121b, and Jack Point 1091b. The shortest odds were quoted against Ethelbert, Kinley Mack, Admiration and Imp, Th,e start was prompt, and the pace was" heartbreaking,, the first mile being run' in *lmkr, 39 2-ssec^ and the mile and a-qfuarter in 2min 4 3-ssee. Efehelbert, who looked a- trifle stale, ) felt the crushing nature of the -weight, arid greatly disappointed his admirers. < He -was not placed. The hard track did not suit " the ■tender feet of Kinley Mack, and he was also unplaced. Imp made a gallant fight, but the two light-weights, Jack Point and The Kentuckian, beat her out. A difference of 201b is quite a difference at the distance. The race clearly demonstrated the levelling influence of weight. Jack Point won,, ridden out, and hi^ victory was disappointing to all except the comparatively few who had money on him. . He is, a brown horse (4) by Sir Dixon out of Merry Maiden, and formerly figured to some extent in selling races. Turf, l°ield, and Farm aLo it-ports the race for the Turf Congress Handicap, one mile and Ihreefcixteentht.. Tne Lady was second and Serrano i'nird. The son of imp. Top Gallant and Addie C. II got in a pocket in the first turn and ran around his field, showing himself a colt of great speed and gameness. With the American Derby and othei high-class performances to his credit, Sidnej Lucas ran justly claim the championship "ol the three-year-qicl division in the West. Foi the Test Handicap, one mile, Voter was the favourite, and he took up 122 pounds and won with .Spencer in the saddle in lmin 38sec, which is record-breaking time on a circular course.
