The monthly competitions for the gold and silver St. Andrew crosses took place over the links at Bishqpscotirt on Saturday, a fair number of players competing. The wet weather of the last fortnight had left the t links in a very wet and sloppy condition, so play of a very high order was. not expected uader the circumstances. The gold cross is held for the month by Mr A. Tapper, who wa3 two down. on '■ Colonel Bogey," and the silver cross by Mr C. E. Howden, who was oae up on tha " Colonel " — a fairly creditable performance on. the day. The following are some of the scores:

Constable Charles M'Donald, who retired from the police force a few days ago, after 34 years' service, was presented by th-e residents of Nelson with .an easy Ghair and also a gold baton for wearing on his watch chain.
