AUCTION SALE OF HIDES AND TALLOW.
Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as fol,lows: — We- held our regular sale of hides and tallow on Friday, 31st August. As usual, there was an excellent attendance of buyers, all eager for supplies. Hides. — We submitted a large catalogue of country hides, town and country butchers' hides and calfskins. Bidding throughout the sale was spirited, and prices satisfactory, especially for well-flayecl ox and cow hides in .good condition. Prices, as compared with our last auction, show no change. We qiiote : [Prime ox, 4d to 4Jd per lb; good do, 3|d to 3|d; fair to medium, 3Jd to 3§cl; faulty and "damaged, 2|d to 3d; good to prime cowa, 3kl to 3|d; fair to medium, 3£d to 33d; calfskins, is to Is 6d each. Tallow. — Bidding for this was not so good, 'and prices are barely up to those lately ruling. T3est rendered mutton, 18s to 20s per cwt ; mixed and inferior, 13s tc 15s 6d; rough fat, 12s 6d to 13s 6d.
