GO LDON WEDDING.

Mr and Mrs John Outrarn celebrated their ! golden wedding on Thursday, when they were heartily congratulated by their many friends and acquaintances. The couple weie married ! on August 23, 1850, at Bradford, Yorkshire, j England. They came to Otago in the ship j Nourmahal, ii#May, 1858, having at that time i two sons and a daughter. Mr Outram accepted tho first work which came to hand in the bush, but in 1859 he joined the police (having served in the force before leaving the old country). When the gold diggings broke out he was stationed at Gabriel's Gully, having charge of that district, and, in conjunction with the la,te Mr (then Commissioner; Strode and Mr T. W. Parker (afterwards stipendiary magistrate at Oamaru), issiied the fiist batch of miners' rights granted in Otago. Shoitly after the arrival of Mr Branigan to lake charge of the Otago police, Mr Outram came to town and resigned, with the rank of first class sergeant. Thereafter for a short peiiod he engaged in storekeeping, and 111 1862 joined the gaol service, in which he continued till 1878, when, through the partial loss of his eyesight under circumstances lhat are tolerably familiar to moat of otir readers, he retired on a, pension with the rank of sergeant and an excellent record. Yesterday the aged couple were surrounded by their descendants to the number of 30, including 19 grand children and one gieat grandchild, and had felicitations and presents showered on them, some of the latter being of a very substantial kind. Tho Rev. A. North (an office-bearer of whose church Mr Outram has been for many years) conducted an appropriate service, and in the name of those present wished the old folk much happiness and comfort in the years that they may be spare-d to each other.
