At the resumed A.M. P. meeting to cr-w sfder the question of amending the bj'-low to permit of the extension of business, Sir Joseph Abbott presided, and announced ihs result of the ballot on the proposal postponed from the last meeting as follows : — Foi- adjournment to October 10, 15,526 ; against, 119,047. Mr Want came fcrwaid with a compromise. He proposed that instead of calling his protest meeting the present vote be allowed to go on, with tha understanding -that the directors would not take a confirmation vote until they sent out ballot papers, which obtained a :i^ar "Yes or no" vote. Sir J. Abbott pointed out that they had an overwhelming majority, and must carry the amendment. The directors could afford to be nm?nani-
ipous, and ir_ order to avoid friction weie willing to meet Mr Want. The conditional requisition calling the meeting for August 24 would be withdrawn. He agreed to a conference between the directors and Mr Want before the resuli. of Ihe ballot was made known. He then put the question of the amendment of the by-law, 80 voting for and 90 against. Sir J. Abbott demanded a ballot, which will be taken on Monday next. The proxy votes will be counted on Wednesday, and the declaration made on the Thursday following. All proxy votes are to be handsd in before noon on Monday.

Mr A. Waugh, for many years on the staff of the Taieri Advocate was presented with a handsome silver-mounted pipe and case on severing his connection with the office.
As a result of the vote on the question of the use of individual communion cups by the Mornington Presbyterian Church, only 26 voted against the proposal out of a membership of 340.
