Danger lurks in the modern store that sells almost everything. A fond pair met at one of them -one day this week. She had been purchasing a pair of red slippers to wear that same evening at the Butterfly Club party. He had bought himself a little steak to cook for supper. They made "dates for that same evening at the Butterfly Club. She said her favourite flower -was the violet, and lie asked if he might bring her a bunch. They picked up their parcels and walked to the corner together. Thab was the last time they -ever ■•saw each other. She did aiot go to the dance that evening. They, had changed parcels. When she reached home she found that. she had steak instead' of slipners. And for him? H8 did not co either. The only word he sent was that he was ill. The poor girl's heart is filled with foreboding. He had lived so long in boarding-houses that she fears he did not know the difference, and broiled and ate her slippers.
