CHARLTON CREEK.

This creek runs through freehold land to the Mataura River. There are five diedging claims taken up in this valley, but on only one is a dredge at work. If dredging were carried on the crops and grass of certain stttlers would be destroyed by silt. To prevent the deposit of silt it would be necessary to constiuct a storm channel. This should be done by mutual arrangement between the farmers and miners, the majority of whom seem willing to contribute to the cost. The commissioners do not recommend proclamation, believing that a satisfactory arrangement will be arrived al between the parties interested.
