In the Arbitration Court Mr J. L. Kimbell, charged by the Furniture Trade Union with two breaches of an award — viz., (1) paying less than the stipulated wage, and (2) keeping over the proportion

of apprentices — the Court found that there

lhad been a breach of the award, and fined Kimbell £2 and costs (£8 8s 6d). Kimbell said that he had not read the award, and the Court commented on his laxity.

• in consequence of the deterioration of the - sanatorium at 'Eotorua through the action ; of the sulphur, the Government intend to . jput a vote on the ' Estimates for some

".£SOOO. to replace the g buildings in brick. ' 'A good deal of work has been done in the

•way of improvements to the grounds, and . also at Whakarewarewa, where the colony recently acquired springs. At Hanmer Plains the natural gas is now being extensively used for cooking, lighting, and heating."
