NOTES BY SLIP.

The unusual occurrence o£ a fir«st-cla-ss match being finished in a day was witnessed at Bradford on May 7, when Yorkshire defeated Worcestershire bj- an innings and 5 runs. The wicket was, after heavy rain, so greatly in favour of the bowler's that batsmen could do next to nothing with them, and Rhodes and Haigh, who had charge of the Yorkshire attack, were quite irresistible. Worcestershire made only 43 and 51, liaodes capturing altogether eleven wickets for 36 and Haigh seven for 49. Yorkshire made 89 (Wainwrigkl 34), five wickets falling to Wilson at a cost of 25 runs. A match at the Crystal Palace between Surrey and the London County Club produced some heavy scoring. Surrey made 304 (Lockwood 95', Hayward 55, D. L. A. Jephson not out 40) and '4l3 (Hayward- 108, Holland 79, Loekwood 68, D. L. A. Jephson 39). while the London County scored TO9 (C. L. Townsend 141, 0. B. Fry 97, Brauud 69). In the Surrey Eleven's next mateh — that against Warwickshire — their bowling again came in for some trouncing, and it would appear to be not so strong a feature of tho team's play as it used to be. Only two days were available for the match, persistent rain causing an abandonment of the fixture on the third day. Warwickshire scored 267 (Lilley 112, Santall 52. W. G. Quaife 31, liargreave not out 30), and 243 for two wickets (W. G. Quaife not out 124, Kinneir not out 98). Surrey made 271 (Hayward not out 131, Lees 45). The match between Mr A. J. Webbe's Eleven and Cambridge University was also abandoned through rain on the third duy.
