The Motion of a Carriage Wheel.

TO THE EDITOE.

Sir, — I was anxious to receive your issue oi the 14th inst. to see how "Civis" got out of the erroneous statement he made on the above subject. Instead of manfully saying, "I was mistaken," henow tells us "both sides are wrong," but his ""fruit tin experiment, which does not prove that top and bottom motion are the same, and his second exx^eriment, fhich shows they are not tho Fame, are remarkable, after his answer to a correspondent, "Every point in the circumference of n rotating circle moves at exactly the same rate as the other point" — this when explaining the movement of a carriage wheel in motion. I see Mr Beverly takes no notice of the "satirical twinkle" "Civis" says he must have experienced when answering correctly the correspondent's question. I have been unable to see the lively wheel controversy alluded to. It is mentioned in your issues of 7th and 14th inst. "Civis." says "his proper business is to embroil the disputants with each other ; but he will be merciful," seemingly forgetting that he is one of the disputants, and the disputant in error. — I am, cbc, WILLIAM RAE.
