HAWKE'S BAY WINTER MEETING.
First Day — Wednesday, June 20. There was beautiful weather for the first clay of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's "Winter meeting. The attendance was large, but speculation was not so brisk as usual, only £3757 being put through the totalisators. Owing to the late continual heavy rains, the course was rather heavy going at the back. The racing, on the whole, was good, no serious accident happening. Mrs Donnelly has now won the Ladies' Bracelet five times. The Hon. Mr Ormond presented the jewel in the absence of Captain Russell at "Wellington. The following are the results: — FINAL STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP, Of 70sovs. About two miles. 95— Mr D. T. Murfitt's r m Apremete, by Son-of-a-Gun — Waipapa, 6yrs, 9.13 (G. S. Powell) 1 38 — Mr Connop's Chance, 9.12 (C. Mitchell) 2 37— Mr Hughes's Dubious, 9.10 (Hughes).. 3 Also started : 141 Sylvanus 10.13; 132 Christmas 10.0, 38 Pistol Grip 9.13. The placed division cut out the running, Chustmas leading until he came down at the sod wall the second time loxmd. Pistol Grip having previously fallen, and Sylvanus, being hopelessly beaten, left Chance and Apremete in front, with Dubious coming strongly. A good race occurred between Chance and Apremete from ihe double to the gorse, where the former blundered and left Apremete to win by a couple of lengths, with Dubious filling third place nhovb five lengths away. Bvish Rose led into the straight, when Ruamahunga was let go, and soon settled the chance of Mr Richardson's gelding, winning comfortably by a couple of lengths. Time, Imin 59 2-ssec. Dividend, £Q 16s.

Murmur, Bradford, and Lorinda led to the half distance, when Tirea assumed the lead, Pearl Shot lying quiet until the back stretch was reached, when, with the two other placed horses, he sasumed the lead, and won with the greatest of ease. Time, 4min 2 3-ssec. Dividend, £2 11s.

Kauri Gum and Coin made the running", with Tim close up. At the back of the course the second time lound Roller went up to Coin and Kauri Gum, and raced locked together for about a furlong, when Roller took command, and Coin and Kauri Gum gave way to Troubadour. No change took place from this point, Roller winning by four lengths. Time, 4niin 7 l-sßec. Dividend, £3 3s.

The colours of The Dude were the first to show fiom an unbroken line when the starter let the flag fall, with Lscly Lome and St. Brigid next. • Bonnie d'Eau came to the front, and a great race ensued from the turn into the straight. Lady Loivie challenged Bonnie cl'Eau, and the pair cams locked together, closely pressed by The Dude and St. Brigid. Bonnie d'Eau won on i.he post by a short neck from Lady Lome, with The Dude and St. Brigid about a length away, almost locked, for third place. Time, Imin 57sec. Dividend, £3 13s.
Second Day— Friday, Juke 22,
Fine w eather again prevailed for the second day of the Jockey Club's races. The attendance was large, and speculation brisker, £4-264-pasring through the machines, making a total of £9637 for the two days, an increase of £1616 over last year, 1-tesults :—: — -

Blackberry, Kauri Gum, and Barbarossa constituted the leading division, and at the sod wall Barbarossa had 100 yards lead. Roller was lying almost last until two miles had been covered, when he and Tally-ho began to move forward in chase of Blackberry, who had overhauled Barbarossa. At the sod wall they rose together, but Blackberry blundered slightly, losing four lengths, but he got almost on terms again, Roller only winning by a length. Time, Bniin losec. Torpina jumped off with the lead, bud soon fell back, leaving La Marquise and Troubadour in front. Torpina moved forward again, but could not get on terms, and La Marquise won comfortably by two lengths. Time, 3min 31 2-ssec. Dividend, £U 3s.

longs, with St. Brigid and Ruainalranga next, when The Miner came from the railway bend with a wet sail, and looked all over a ivinner, but St. Brigid was after him, with Ruamahunga lying next. Half way up the straight all the horses were bunched* but Ruamahunga stalled off The Miner's challenge, and just won by three-quarters of a length, with Bonnie d'Eau a close third. Time, Irniu 2Dsec. Soon after the field had settled down Evening Wonder took a strong lead, but at tha sod wall threw his jockey, leaving Carnival and Kauri Gum in front. The double proved fatal to Carnival, leaving Kauri Cum a clear run home from Scallywag, which he successfully accomplished by four lengths. Time, 4min 25 2-ssec. Dividend, £3 2s.
