The Secretary of the Evans Fiat Dredging Company raports the following return for last week: — 16oz 3dwt.
The "Wool&hed dredge washed up on Friday last for 20oz. The dredge has now got clear of the old tailings, and is working m better ground. — Bruce Herald. The Riverbank dredge is reported to have washed up on Saturday last (says the Bruce Herald), after about a week's lunning. No information can be obtained as to whether the wash-up was payable or not. At a special meeting of the directors of the Kuiiarkables Dredging Company, held on the 2§tn inst. It was resolved that the agreement lately made to purchase the G-olden Spec Company's dredge be confirmed. The price to be- paid for the dredge *and all the ropes, the boats, the tools, etc., belonging to it, is .-62750. Tenders are to bs called 'immediately for taking the dredge to pieces, removing the material to tho Nevis River, probably by way of Bannockbur/i, and there rebuilding ihe pontoons and re- erecting the machinery. The dredge is a strong little machine, a;id not much the worse for. wear. The pontoons ara 70ft long, the engine IS horse-power, and the boiler 18 horse-power — both made by Ruston, Proctor, and Co. The ladder will dredge to a depth of SOf fc. The claim is above the Nevis township, and is close to the Ngapara No. 2, and is leckoned by experts to be a good one. Part, of the ground was worked by box sluicing more than 36 years ago, but the greater portion is untouched. During the last six months the directors have been vainly endeavkraring to acquire a dredge of sufficient strength and capacity to work the ground, but owing to the lack of capital they have not been able until now to procure what they wanted. It is not likely that much can be done in the way of removal for about six weeks, as the road between Eannockburn' and the Nevis is impassable for waggons in the depth of winter.
