A HIGHLANDER'S FAREWELL TO THE GAELIC SOCIETY.
In our last week's iasue of the Witness the above letter, which was addressed to the Wellington Gaelic Society, appeared above the name o£ Ewen Macdonald. It should have been Ewen MacDonell. Mr MacDonell, who was stationed in Wellington, has been transferred to the West Coast. He was a chieftain of the society in Wellington since its formation twelve months ago, and took an active interest in its formation. Himself a true Highlander, he is a real type of the mountaineer, and well versed in Celtic lore, and his influence and personality has been the means of many joining the society, which has now a membership of about 50. Professor M'Kenzie, of the Victoria College, is the chief, and though, a master of English language and literature, is a second Professor Blaekie in Celtic language and literature, and even sometimes "wags his head" in the pulpit. His popularity entitles him to be styled the chief of "all the clans" in the North Island, We are sure that the many "0-aejs" of Otagc will join us in wishing sxicce&s to the Graelio of the Empire City.
