CLINTON.

June 25. — The Clinton footballers journeyed to Balclutha on Wednesday, and played., a match with the Ciutha Club. The game was very evenly contested, no score being registered on either side. W. Thomson potted a goal for Clinton, but for some unaccountable reason the referee decided against the goal, otherwise the game would have ended in a different way. The Clinton players speak veiy highly of the way they were treated by the Ciutha players during their stay in the town. The Clinton team left for home by the night train, with a send-off of "For they are jolly good fellows," sung by the home team.

Lecture — Mr James Begg, who has recently returned from a trip round the world, gave a lecture on his travels at the M.I.S. on Tuesday. The lecture lasted for an hour and a-half, and was attentively listened to. Mr A. M'Donald proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Begg for his interesting address, which was carried with acclamation.

Threshing Mill. — Mi W. A., Broad, who has been threshing for the farmers in this locality finished foi the season on Friday. Mr Broad informs me that he is a month later this year than he was last. The wet weather at the beginning of the season accounts for the delay in not getting finished up earlier.

Parliament.— Mr J. W. Thomson, M.H.R., left here on Monday for Wellington to attend to his parliamentary duties.

Death. — One by one the old identities are being removed from oui midst. I have now to record the death of Mrs Cumming, of Wairuna, which took place on Tuesday morning. Mrs Cumming had enjoyed the best of health ivd to a short time before her death. Being of, a quiet disposition, she was loved and respected by all, and by her death the district has lost one ot its iast-diminishing old identities. The funeral took place on Friday, and was largely attended.

Religious.— The Rev. J. M. Allen, of Stirling, preached hi the local Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening.
