THE FIVERS COMMISSION.

THE RIVERS TO BE PROCLAIMED WELLINGTON, June 21.

The Rivers Commissioners appointed to inquire into the question of the southern •watercourses into which tailings may be discharged have submitted an interim report, in which they make the following recommendations .- —

The Waiau and all tributaries, except the Hollyburn, to be proclaimed.

Denny's Creek, Orepuki, not to be proclaimed.

The Ourawera Creek, Colac, and all tributaries to be proclaimed.

The Waikaka River from its confluence with the Mataura River to the ford on ,the main road leading tox Waikaka township at the north boundary of section 31, block 111, Chatton survey district ; also the tributaries in Garden Gully and tributaries of Shepherd's Creek from its confhienca ■with the Waikaka to the north-western iboundary of section 14, block I, Chatton survey district, with all its tributaries up to the said boundary ; also the Little Waikaka River, or east branch, with all its tributaries to their sources, to be proclaimed, and £4072 compensation paid.

Gold Creek not to be proclaimed,

Charlton Creek not to be proclaimed. A storm channel should be constructed by arrangement between the land-owners and aniners.

The Waimumu Creek not to be proclaimed. The present storm channel should fee enlarged, the road and railway bridges mot being sufficiently large to cany off the flood water.

The Waikaia JELiver and all tributaries to toe proclaimed, and £1335 10s compensation paid. The Titipu^and Hedgehope Streams -jot to be proclaimed until prospecting has been iiiaca© extensively carried on.
