WAIKOUAITI LICENSING COMMITTEE.
The annual meeting of the Waikouaiti Licensing Committee was held at the Magistrate's Court, Port Chalmers, on Thursday afternoon, there being present Messrs E. H. Carew, S.M. (chairman), W. M. Innes, J. H. Harrison, J. Porteous, and W. S. Lucas. Sergeant Geerin, who represented the police, stated that there were no objections, whatever, the reports being all favourable. The applicants were not called up to support their applications, which were granted as follows: — William James Waters, Port Chalmers Hotel, Beach street; Ellen Chick, Chick's Hotel; Edward M'Corma«k, George Hotel; David Leech, Provincial Hotel, George street; Robert Sharp, Marine Hotel, George street. ; Patrick Mackie, Crescent Hotel, Mansf ordtown ; Peter Nelson, Coney's Hotel, Portobello ; John Colehan, Saratoga Hotel, Waitati; Frederick Rogen, Evansdale Hotel, Evansdale; Eliza Sinclair, Railway Hotel, Waikouaiti; Joseph Ainge, Seacliff Hotel, Seacliff; Patrick Toomey, Golden Fleece Hotel, Waikouaiti ; William Sutton, of Port Chalmers, wholesale license. The Chairman mentioned that the regulations as to lights would be the same as previously. The matter had been considered by the committee, ("and that was the decision ; the lamps to be put out when the hotels are closed. The hotels in Port Chalmers were granted licenses till 11 o'clock, and the country hotels 10 o'clock licenses. Mr D. D. Macdonald appeared for some of ' the applicants, and Mr Platts for Messrs J. Ainge, E. Chick, J. Colehan, F. Rogen, and E. Sinclair, but were not required to address the committee.
