OTAGO CENTRAL RAILWAY.

'HANPURLT-WEDDBRBOHN SECTION OPEN FOR TRAFFIC. The Tianfurly-Wedderbtirn section of the Otago Central, which is to be opened to the public to-day, commences at Ranfurly, about f77i miles, from Wingatui. . From Ranfurly to iW!edderb, urn is a distance of 8A miles. This .point will remain the terminal one probably for a little over a year, when it is hoped the - line will be completed t& the Blackstone Hili station in Ida Valley,, which is situated 98 miles from Wingatui. Full provision has-been -made at^Wedderburn in the way of house accommodation for the railway employees. The "station is an ordinary one, provided with 'goods shed, 'cattle yards, loading bank, good iivater supply, etc. It is immediately adjacent to the main road leading through the goldfields from Naseby, and will be a very gim^ JbgftP- *° &U tbs surrounding £ettlers 4

I especially to those in the White Sow Valley, j where there is a tract of good farming land. ' Generally, for all traffic the station is splendidly situated, being easily accessible by one j of the main arterial roads of the country, i With reference to the Blackstone Hill fetation, the- railway when opened to that point will bring all the settlers in the upper porJ tion of the Ida Valley in proximity to the ' line. This station will be a larger one than ' that at Wedderbui-n, and no doubt a stationI master will be in charge, and a post and telej graph office will also be established. This , will give, capital facilities for all the settlers. I In regard to the section now being opened . the work has bean comparatively light, with ! the exception of that in the neighbourhood of ■ Eden Creek, • where some moderately heavy works have been met with, but on the whole , the work may be taken as light, and ccjise- . quently of cheap construction.

I Lord Dundonald is a keen cyclist, and is ' jfch.9 inventor of a pates* ovele saddle.
