A party of Opotiki amateur fishermen the other day landed a shark measuring lift 9in from snout to tail.
A bottle-nosed shark 15ft long, Bft in girth, and estimated to weigh 30cwt, was caught just off the mouth of the Moyne River, Port Fairy (Victoria), recently', by four fishermen. After great difficulty it was landed on the wharf by means of a crane.
A London cable to the Australian papers, .dated May 12, says: — The nialch between Jeffries and Corbett for the championship of the world was brought off at the Coney Island Club, New York, last night. Jeffries won in the twenty-third round.
The Anglers' Club, Temuka, have just received a handsome trophy from Mr W. J. Cummins, England, as a prize for a fishing competition next season. The trophy is a Charles rod, and it is very highly spoken of.
