At the half-mile post Princess of Wales, who had gradually forged past, was clear of Peeress, with Dirk Htrmmerhand and Veneda, following closely. When fairly in the line for home Dirk Hammerhand was in front, with Wild Ra-ven and Veneda in close attendance, but at the pickets Veneda, drew up to Dirk Hammerhand, and in a rattling finish the big son of Carlyon was beaten by a head, Wild Raven half a length off third.
