DA NATIVE MEETING.

AUCKLAND, May 18. An important Native meeting is at present in progress at Waalii, King Mahuta's settlement, a great, many chiefs cf high rank being present, also Messrs Henare Kaihau and Hone Heke, M.fl.R.'s, and. Ngataha. Two viesks ago the outline of a series of proposals bearing mostly on the land question was drawn up at a meeting held ar Rotorua. where it was agreed -that after these had been submitted to the various tribes they should bs laid before the Government as voicing the opinion of Maoris generally. These proposals have been approved by the Natives of the East Coast and northern electorates, as well as by a portion of the West Coast tribes, and are now being .submitted for approval to those who acknowledge allegiance to Mahuta.
