Prior to the commencement of the matcV Southern v. Zingari-P.iclimond the referee (Mr G. The civil servants of the colony are getting up a testimonial to Colonel Baden-Powell. The telegraph officials at the Dunedin office as soon as the news reacHed here, sang "' God save the Queen." and exchanged cheers.

A* Friday's mealing oi' the Roslyn Ccatncil the mayor was reque&ted lo ask the Acting Premier to cable congratulations to Colonel Baden-Powell. Mr A. Mat'ieson telegraphed the request to the Hon. Air Waid. and received the following reply :• — " I shall be verj glad to convey your request to Colonel BadenPowell so soon as the good news of the reliel of Mafeking comes to hand. In the meantime, regret to fay, according to latest advices,' Mafeking is still surrounded."

On Saturday afternoon the Normal Students' Tennis Club, headed by Mr Gray, M.A., gave vent to tlieir patriotic feelings in singing vociferously the National Anthem and giving three hearty cheera for Baden-Powell.
