VOLUNTEERS

D Company (Dmiedin City Rifles) paraded at the Garrison Hall on Thursday evening last for inspection by Lieutenant-colonol AVebb. The inspecting officer was accompanied by Major Smith and Captain and Adjutant Hislop. The company was put through the various movements by its officers and non-commissioned officers, after which Colo_iel Webb briefly addressed the parade. The parade state was as follows :— Lieutenants M'Ara and Kirkham, 1 cciour-sergeant, 4 sergeants, 3 corporals, 1 bugler, 37 rank and file; — total, 48. The second annual meeting of the company was held m the orderly loom at the close of the inspection, Lieutenant M'Ara presiding. The annual report and balance sheet showed the company to be in a very fair position. The following committees, etc., were elected: — Secretary, Seigennt Clifford ; Finance Committee — ColoursergeanifVivian and Sergeant Peat; Shooting Committee — Colour-sergeant Vivian, Sergeants Birch and Mai shall, Corporal Crawford, Privates East, Nesbitt, and Barron; storekeeper, Sergeant Kerkham. The Dunedin Naval Artilleiy brought their shooting season to a close on Saturday afternoon by firing a match open to non-prize winners in the ' company's ■ previous competitions. The conditions were seven shots at 200 (kneeling) and 500 yards. The prizes were presented by Lieutenant-commanding Allen, Mrs C. Mills, and Mr B. Fuller. Twenty-two members competed, and the following were highest : —
