The loads are not in very good co it"lition*wifcb. the late rains, and I notice that the bridge on the lower Otania road, is completely broken down, necessitating the milk supplier^ and others going a long round. The renewing of the bridge ought to be seen , to at once, as it is a great inconvenience m its present state. , Ecclesiastical. — "We are at present having a week's evangelistic 'meetings conducted by Mi jSF. H. Scurr,of the Australasian Evangelistic Society. Mr Scurr is an earnest and stirring : speaker, but the mission has beez^ tuif or Lunate i for weather. I Volunteers. — Our young men who are meni- ■ beis of the H*fle Corps were drilled in the hall last night for the first time. Lieuterant Alex. M'Nab put the.ir through xlipir paces, and we hope to see them, acquire the ' militaiy art oi' walking straight ar.ci Keeping their shoxilders square. I Presentation. — Mr John A. Bruce was pieseated ,by his fellow teachers in the Sunday * school here with a writing case, on the occasion of his leaving this district for Cromwell. Hounds and Hares. — Mr Wayte and party have had several enjoyable runs with the 1 hounds round the district. It is very enlivent ing to see them all going along at full speed, and a pretty sight to see the horses taking the jumps over a fence. Hares are not, however, , vciy plentiful.
