THE WESTERN FRONTIER. LONDON, May 7.
General Hunter, after crossing- the Vaal River, sent forward Major-general Barton to dislodge 3000 Boers from Klipdam, near ■Windsorton.' The Boers were posted on hilly and'bushy ground at Rooidam, their front extending for four mites. A severe engagement was then fought. The Boers opened fire at 500 yards on the Imperial ■Yeomanry, wlio approached in extended or-, der. A few men were hit and several horses were killed. The British infantry fought at close quarters, capturing ridge after ridge. [As the retreat of the Boers was threatened hj our forces, the enemy retired, leaving 13 of their dead upon the field, and a batch t>f their own men were captured. The British loss was five killed and 25 wounded, the latter being chiefly Welsh Fusiliers. The Imperial Yeomanry chasecf the enemy tor miles to the north. _ During the engagement at Rooidam Colonel"' Paget, at " Warrenton. kept the Boers busy,' and prevented them from sending reinforcements* to the commando al Windsorton. v LONDON, May 8. General Hunter has expelled the Boers from Fourteen Streams. He pays a tribute, to the gallantry of the Yeomanry. The British are now encamped on the northern bank. Several thousand Boers ,stilf"occupy positions to the northwards, in a semi-circle.
