Ewes also had a good gale, and sold on a level with prices realised a fortnight ago. Country Sales. — Maclean and Co. "report having held theii monthly sale at Owaka on Thursday last. There was a large entry, and, tinder really good bidding, nearly every lot found buyers at full rates. The only lots turned out were either not very good or owners placed tco high a value upon them. TVe yarded 130 head, and sold for 17 valued clients at the following rates: — Best bullocks, £5 12s to £7, good steers, iiS 7s to £4 18s; fat cows and heif exs, £3 5s to £o ; dairy cows, £i to £5 Is ; yearlings, 10s to 36s 6d; other stock, 10s to £1 15s; pigs at 7s; horses at £10 15s. Maclean and Co. also report having held their usual fortnightly sale at Balclutha on Friday. There was a large yarding ol cattle, bxit sheep weie poorly lepresented. (Limited) report having held their fortnightly sale at Balclutha on Friday, the 4th inst., when they yarded 595 sheep and 146 head cattle. There was a fair demand for good young sheep, but inferior sorts were neglected. Cattle met with a fair demand, and they Fold the whole of their entiy excepting one \ien at fair prices. Well-grown crossbred lambs brought from 10s 3d to 10s 9d; small, 8s to 9s 3d; aged ewes, 6s lid to 9s; best three and foui-year r old bullocks, £5 to £5 15s ; medium do, £4 to £4 15s; heifers, £2 6s to £3 ss.
Rabbitskins. — There was a very brisk demand for rabbitskins on Monday, and prices realised were rather better than those psid at the last sales a fortnight ago. Moderate catalogties were offered, consisting principally of summer skins. \
Sheepskins. — No sales this week.
Hides. — Prices still keep abotit the same, good' heavy hides being keenly sought after. Sales are readily made at for prime heavy, 4Jd to A\A, medmm to good, Z\d. to <kl; light, 3d to 3Jd; inferior, 2:jd to 2^d per lb.
Tallow and ' Fan. — There is not a great deal of business doing in this particular line. The supply comes principally from country clients, and is compos?d of mixed- rendered and rough fat, for which there is a ready sale at for prime rendered, 17s to 19s; mixed, 15s to 16s; rough fat, -10s to 14s per cwt,
Grram. — Wheat:, The market for prime milling of all sorts continues firm at late quotations, and sales of this class are effected-with-out difficulty. Medium quality is not in request. Fowl wheat is offering more plenti-* fully, but is in fair demand at late values. Quotations are : Prime milling, 2s 6d to 2s 7d ; medium, 2s Id to 2s 4d; fowl wheat, whole, Is lid to 2s; broken and damaged, Is 9d to Is 10d per bushel (sacks in). Oats: These are now coining forward more freely. Vendors evince a disposition to store meantime, in. the expectation of better valf.es ruling later on. The quantity on offer i~, therefore, limited. Buyers, however, have experienced little difficulty in supplying orders, and are not disposed to speculate heavily at current prices, which, however, are a fraction below those lately quoted. The demo-nd is chiefly for bright short feed, but we have inquiries also for prime long Tartarian and Danish. Quotations are : Prime milling, Is 9d to Is lOcl; good to best feed, Is 8d to Is Bid; medium, Is 7d to Is 7Jd; inferior, r& 5d to Is 6d per bushel (sacks extra). Barley: The demand is entirely confined to prime quality, medium end inferior ko:x,§ being absolutely without inquiry. Quotations arc : Extra prime (Lakes barley), 3s to 3s Gd ; prime malting, 2s 4d to -2s lOd; good. 2s to 2s 3d; milling and feed, Is 6cl to Is lOd per bushel (sacks extra).
Potatoes. — The market is moderately supplied, and all good sound lots oiiermg find buyers at slightly improved values. Quotations are: Best Derwenta, £2 5s to £1 10s; medium, £2 to £2 2s Gd; kidneys, etc., £1 10s to £1 15s per ton (sacks in).
Chaff. — The only class oft'eimg for some time has been medium quality. This is not much sought after, but, in the absence of better quality, has moved off gradually at x^rices a shade in advance of last week's. Prime oaten plieaf is strongly inquired for, and sure of ready sale. The sale was a very svtccessml one, both as regards number of entries and prices realised. The iot.il entries compiised about 1200 sheep and lambs, GO head of cattle, and 12 horses. They quote. Horses, draughts, up to £35 10s, and light horses to £11.
Cattle. — Three and four-year-old bullocks from £i 2s 6d to £5 ss; two to three-year-old steeis from £3 to £3 32s 6d; yearlings, £1 to J2l 10s; fat steers, and heifers from £4 to ;E5 15s ; dairy cows, from £3 10s to £5 10s ; calves, 10d to 15s. »
Sheep. — The auctioneers sold the following lots: — For Mr Roderick Cameron (Goodwood), 120 two_-tooth wethers at 13s; Messrs MAuley Bros. (Flag Swamp), 230 lambs at 9s 7d; Mr F. G. Glover (Dunback), 30 two-tooth wethers at 11s lOd; Mr Lot Wilcoeks (Dunback), 20 lambs at 8s 3d ; Mr Peter Arnott (Shag VaUey), 35 lambs at 8s lOd; Mr James Paterson (Pleasant Valley), 30 lambs at 10s 6d; Mr John Cditts (Palmerston), 40 full-mouthed halfbred ewes at lla 4d.
