WAIWERA.
April 30. — All the grain having been stacked, threshing is now being pushed on with all possible speed. We have this year two tractions and mills busily engaged. The difficulty with the owners just now will be to please everyone, as all want to get the mill first. I daresay each mill owner will after all do just as he thinks fit in the matter, and do his best to thresh all in due course. All we wish for now is fair play and no partiality, then it will be right in the end. I notice some grain a bit discoloured, but otherwise well filled and bulky.
Weather. — Last Thursday we had a pretty heavy snow shower. This, with the severe fi'ost, made things look wintry for a time. It is to be hoped, however, that we shall get more fine weather yet before winter finally sets in.
Agricultural. — Turnip crops are generally good. I have also seen some very fair crops of potatoes. Stock generally look remarkably well. Several farmers are keeping the greater part of their lambs this season, instead of selling them fat, believing that eventually it will pay them better than having to risk buying to keen up their standing flock.
Public Works. — I am pleased to note that our County Council are getting the upper ford repaired again, as there is a good deal of traffic to and from this place.
