WAIRIO.

April 30.— T0 all appearances, we are plunged ironi an ideal autumn into bitter midwinter. For the last week the weather has been wretched — ram, hailstones, slight fall of snow, a couple of very severe frosts, and a flood hi anticipation have been our bill ot fare. 1 am pleased to be able to write that ail the grain is safely stacked, but oji very few farms is the threshing over. It is a great pity the fine weather did not hold till seme of the grain- carting was done, for that is what plays such sad havoc with our nngravellcd roads. Even now, with just a week's rain, they aie in a very dirLy state.

Eccleciastical. — Our new Presbyterian missionary, Mr Pringle, has fairly staited with his new duties, and I think, if first impressions count for anything, Mr Pringle' s coming will mark a new era m the life of our little church. The weekly services now held appear to be gieatly appreciated.

! Ball. — Our farmers' employees issued invi- | tation cards a short time ago to a ball held ! last Friday evening in Mr Fitzsiromons's Hall, which proved a decided success. Too much praise cannot be given the committee,' who all worked with a will, ths wants of the hallful of people being in no way neglected. Messrs Eagan Bios, discoursed excellent music, while Megsr3 W.'-JGuttery end P. Hogan discharged the duties of -M.C. This pleasant gatheiug broke up about daylight, the general wish being th->t the young men will make it an an"nual" affair.

Current Events. — Dame Rumour is all agog just now, one of her subjects bsing a wedding that was very quietly performed last Monday, and the other that one of the big farms is to be in the market during the next few" days.
