BRUCE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Bruce County Council, held on Tuesday, at Milton, was attended by Crs. W. Noble (chairman), J. M. Begg, H. M. Driver, H. Clark, W. Hewitson, P. Haggart, "W. Crane, and J. Rutherford.

The Inspector reported that the county roads continued to be in a fair state .for traffic, and but little work had been done on them since the last meeting. Fair progress had been made with the works in hand. Metalling contracts at Hillend and Table Hill road were in progress, and the raising of a portion of the road near Stirling was making fair progress. Some maintenance metal was required on the Main road from Balclutha to Willocks, on the road from Manuka Creek to Round Hill, on the road from Balclutha Bridge to Kaitangata, and on roads in the Milburn and Clarendon districts. The receipts for the month from various sources amounted to £411 ss, and the expenditure to £243 Is. — Adopted. ' CORRESPONDENCE.
Fred. Fuell, Town Clerk Borough of Kaitanga'.a, wrote asking that the road near the cemetery be widened for wheeled traffic. — Referred to the inspector to act.
A circalar was received from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, requesting the county to contribute on the basis oi last year's levies till the new levy was prepared. — Agreed to.
The circular from the Mayor of Dunedin relating to the Indian famine fund was "Received.'
Letters weie received from Geo. Aitchison and Arch. M<>rrison, complaining of the ppllution of Old Creek, Kaitangata. — A committee, consisting of Crs Haggart, Hewitson, Rutherfoid, the chahrnan, and the inspector, were appointed to deal with Lhe matter.
GENERAL,
On the motion of Cr Haggart, Constable M'Kenzie, Kaitangata, was appointed inspector of slaughterhouses in the borough.
The committee appointed to report on proposed rosrd deviation, Clarendon-Berwick roads on Mr A. Carrick's property, reported that they ccmld not get Mr Carrick to agree to the deviation proposed, and they recommend that the plan be modified to make it come within the Government vote. — Adopted.
On the motion of Cr Rutherford, it was decided that an extra six chains on the Swamp road to Parkes should be carried out at schedule rates, and that the clerk should write to the Kaitangata Railway Company for permission to clear out the ditch beside the railway line.
On the motion of Cr Martin, the inspector ■was instructed to take stepa to prevent the depositing of noxious weeds and rubbish on the county roads
tenders'.
R. Ford and T. Andrews tendered for clearing the ditches on the Matau and Inchclutha roads at the following rates : — Contract 535, Is 8d per chain; contract 566, Is 6d per chain; contract 537, Is 9d. It was decided to accept this tender on condition that the work was done with the spade.
