UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.

The University Council met in the Education Buildings on Monday afternoon. Mr 'E. B. OVtrgiH (vice-chancollor) presided, and the members present were Professors Sale and Shand, Drs Hocken and Burn», the Rev. A. UaaieroTi, arid Messrs i). K. White. G. G. Ru-^eJ! T. K. Sidey, and J?mes Allen, M.11.R.

TlTe report of the committee which had been appointed to consider the question of making additional provision for the te.-.naing of law at the University was then brought tip and read. It was decided that the report should be received, but thai it should be withheld until it had been considered by the Professorial Beard. The council were further of opinion that in any case, as the session was so far advanced; it would be impossible to give effect to the recommendations of the committee until the beginning of r.cxt year.

With rcgaid to the assistance offered by the Lsw Society in connection with the subiect cf the above-mentioned report, the following resolution was passed, on the motion of Mr Sidey: — "That this council records a vote of thanks to the council of tli 9 Law Society for their co-operation in the matter of the law lectureships and their generous- offer of a ..donation of £50."

The Finance Committee recammended !he payment of accounts amounting to £856 13s Bd. The bank book showed a credit balance of £1950 14s lOd. A statement of receipts and expenditure showed the former to bo £9037, and the latter £91-16, which lefi a debit balance of nearly £400. TLe Vice-chan-cellor remarked that the position of affairs was very similar to that which existed at the beginning of last year.— The report was adopted, and the registrar was instructed to' prepare copies of the statement for each member for their consideration.* The question of the council Contributing to the cost of erecting a post-mortem room at the hospital wo 3 deferred until next meeting.

During the month of February the bath fees at Rotorua Sanatorium amounted to £118 17s 3d, which was a large increase over the takings during the corresponding month of last year.
