BANK NOTES.

The Mimihau correspondent cf the Wyndharn Farmer writes : The angling season iust closing has not been favourable, for although some good baskets were made, I have not met one who has got near the number cf fi^h that be had last i-eatoti. Th? wet season caused a lot of feed to be carried into the stream, which made the trout very shy oE any bait offered them. Theie ar? plenty of fish left in the stream, and it is to be hoped — and all anglers have the bximp of hopefulness largely developed — that next season will bring better luck. Following up his catch of a five-pounder on Eastov Monday, Mr Gaw, stationmaster, - Wyndham, caught a quartet of speckled beauties, turning the scale at 121b. They were landed from the Mimihau with the fly. It"s about time some of the older haiiafc were looking to their laurels, surely.

Canterbury. — Mr J._ Trist report* that Mr W. Maine, of Christchurch, and Mr Boyd Thomson had some splendid spoil while fishing in the Eansfitata. In 13 hours they caught 11 fish, weighing in all 541b, the Inrgest scaling 101b. On the night of April 22, Mr George Ward, of G c raldine. made a magnificent catch of fish in the Opibi, below the lower ford. In all he took six fis-h of 66Alb weight— slb, 6|lb, 91b, 111b, 121b, and 231b. The fish were taken between dusk en April 22 and >\ o'clock the next morning. — At a meeting, of the Timaru Anglers' Club on Friday cvenine;, the secretary's report on the past season showed that some excellent baskets had been taken by members of the club. Mr 1. Palliscr was presented with the society's first prize of £A and Mr J. Ogilvie with the second prize of £2 for fly-fishing, and each received special prizot- in addition. Mr D. J. Caldwell and Mr Gudex received special -prize? for minnow-fishing. *" Mimihuu. — "W. P. S." writes: Despite the rain, a few of our local men were out on the last day of the season, but the streams scon o;ot muddy. Mr J. Wright had a few nice fish at midday. Mr A. Grieve and Mr W. P. Smith, in an hour in the afternoon, got 3 fish, weighing 81b. The season has not been up to the average. I wish to thank all anglers who supplied me with their takes so as to furnish you with notes, and will now say good-bye for the next five months.
