It is admirably adapted for sheep, and is very well drained. The annual rainfall is not excessive, and, as has been proved by neighbouring proprietors who have cleared large areas on the north side of the inlet, the country takes English grass well, and carries a heavy stock of sheep and cattle. There is also some very fine flat alluvial land in the valley of the Paturau River (a model trouting stream), covered with a great deal of heavy timbei suitable for milling purposes.
