ROUGH RIDGE.
April 27. — The annual meeting of householders for the election of the committee to the Sough Ridge School was held on Monday evening, April 23. Mr "W. Marshall (chairman of the school committee) occupied the chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read by the secretary, and confirmed on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Rawlinson. The report and balance sheet were as follows: — " The Rough Ridge School Committee have goreat pleasure in submitting their annual report for the year ending March 31, 1900. We have held nine meetings during the year, each being well attended. At the first meeting Mr Marshall was appointed chairman, and Mr Nicolson secretary. The average daily attendance for the four quarters of the committee's term of office was: — Quarter ending June, 32; yuarter ending September, 28; December, 35; March (of this year), 32. The last examination, conducted by Mr Richardson, was very satisfactory, and shows that the teacher still continues to do good work,, and it gave the committee great pleasure to congratulate the teacher on the result of his work. During the year the teacher, committee, and others gave a concert in aid of the school funds, by which the committee benefited to the extent of JE6 12s. The outbuildings were at first- built on the sailway line. The Public Works department have now shifted them on to the school giound, and* have also promised to put pipes under the line of formation, to enable the committee to bring a race of water on to the school grounds. The c6irmittee gratuitously gave a day to gravelling round the school. The chairman also sank a well, thus saving their funds to some extent. The Education Board have supplied bird-net-ting, for netting the spouting of the school and residence, to prevent the small birds nesting, and have also granted £12 towards the cost of erecting a washhouse and porch. For vacarcies on the Education Board your committee voted for Messrs Kyle, Mackenzie, Macgrtgor, and Mitchell. Our total revenue for the jear was £19,03 sd, the items as follows:-?:

Expenditure - Cleaning school and . outbuildings, £& 5s 3d ; fuel for school use, £1 : itx c'ng, £i; bank charges, 11s; balance in bank, .07 4s.2d;— total, £19 0& 5d." The Chairman said he had now to move that _'ie report ;nd bplance sheet be adopted. Mr Nicolson seconded the motion, which, on being put to the meeting, was carried unani- j •mcusly. Mr Marshall here vacted the chair, j Mr Kawlinson b'lng voted in his stead. Mr | Kawlinson, in occup3'ing the chair, moved that a voie of thanks ba accorded the outgoing committee for their services during the year; seconded by Mr Marshall, and carried imamrncusly. The following nominations were received: — Mesf-rs Marshall, Jopson, Brown, and Nicolson. There being no other nominations, the chairman declared them duly elected as parl of the committee, intimating that the board would appoint the other three. The following names were suggested to the chairman as being suitable to fill the vacancies: — Messrs Gordon, Eustace. Williams, and Lockhart. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
