Notes from Wakatipu. (From Our Our Correspondent.)
Arrowtown, April 28. — The end of April or beginning of May generally lands us in the dull when work is i educed in Jtno3t mines. 'Nothing definite has transpired as to the winter washings up in thp bigger sluicing claims, but it is understood that in spite of one of the driest summers on record, the yield all round is satisfactory, and fully up to the average. There are no new developments in dredging affairs. The two claims on which dredges have been put 1 — viz., the Rolling Sione claim, Cardrona, and the Shotover, just above the Lower bridge, are still engaged in opening a paddock, and consequently there are no regular returns. Mr H. Yon Haast, who has acted as winchman for some. time on board the Hartley and Riley dredge, has heen appointed dredgemaster of the Rolling Stone dredge, in place of Mr J. R. Robinson, who is now recovering from the in-juries received the other week.
