PUBLICATIONS RECEIVED.

The April number of Austral Light so rcely calls for any special comment, if we except an article on the late "Professor 'Mivarts's Theological Modifications'^' and a further instalment of Dr Carr's "Moral* Principles and Medical Practice."

New Zealand Illustrated Magazine. — There is a decided onward movement in the excellence of 'the New Zealand Illustrated Magazine, which we note with great pleasure. The contents are both varied and pleasing, • and whole effect of the magazine, without Binning ourselves to detailed notice, may ba described as improving and advancing steadily and broadly.

The Timaru Post states that at the volunteer encampment at the Levels on Sunday last a number of patriotic boys concocted a scheme whereby 'they might augment the New Zealand sick and wounded fund. Assisted by the Dunedin Garrison Band, they inarched round the camp, waiting on the volunteers for their subscriptions. Altogether the sum of £7 was collected, and great credit is due to the boys, of whom there were eight, for their assistance in so worthy an object.
