AROUND THE WORLD.

(Fkom Otago Witkess Specials.)

Gore, March 17.

Dear Bis, — Hooray! likewise Hurroo-" for this, the glorious 17th, and may the shamrock always flourish! (How's that?) - Well,' old man, things are still O. K. (notice, unlike? other agents, I don't give the chestnut re packed houses), and as a kinematograph show we are easily first. Oxvc Dunedin season was the best >ye have yet had in the southern, capital, and the Southland trip very profitable. Our next important fixture is Christchuroii — opening 29th present month, by which time we shall have landed an additional 20 war pictures. •

The Steele-Payne Quintette had a good' fine down south, and are now resting. The Happy St. Georges (at one nine wiih us) are doing payable business in the '' smalls " round here.

Another kineinatograph company (Montgomery's) — which, by the bye, is rnainJy myrioramie — has just made a raid here. I have not seen their show yet, but the agent-—^o I ami reliably informed — talks largely of wiping our poor little show off the face of Moaland. Good luck to him. He is certainly, vailing, if not ajjle. And here, dear boy, is a wheeze — a personal experience. Some years ago, when I was back-blocking ■ in New South Wales, we were in a bush town and one Sunday the whole strength of the company (five) went for a walk. "We got bushed, and lost our way. Night was coming on apace, when one bright little lady suggested that " Mr Abbott [that's me] should take tha lead, as he was sure to find an hotel." {'Nice of her, wasn't it?). Hope to see you shortly, en route for West Coast anc"bnorth- — Yours always smiling,

HAERY ABBOTT, Northcote's Eanematograph Company.

Bay View Hotel, Bhiff, March 16. Dear Bis,— Heard the following at a rairw&j, station:— " It's no use, Bill, you'll have ~t( drop that shovel and go to the Transvaal. 1 Bill: " Good heavens! Is Buller dead?" Sold eight nights' biz to three Orepuki sportsso have bought new boots for the company. Mailing you one of our new couriers, which I hope is up-to-date. Our joint regards to " The Only Bis " and

THE OLD RELIABLE,

All hail to thee, tlioxt g«jct old ship, Long hast thou braved the sea; A pas&ivg flag to thee we clip In metaphoric glee. Ah, many years have conic and gone Since first thy keel was laid; Behold! new sails to breast the gales I For New Year thou'rt arrayed.

Good fortune, on thy launching day, Stood sponsor at thy prow, How many hcaits chat then were gay Can revel with thee now? A truce to sad thoughts; square the yarcl^r Anolhei voyage long Is waiting thee upon Life's sea, Oh, Witness, swift and strong. Thy precious cargo bear afai To hearts in every port, Bright burn for thee each guiding stai. Thy cruise be jovial sport, How many rivals have gone down To dark oblivion's wreck, Since that first morn, o'er billows borne The Captain walked thy deck.

No bark untried in thee we haill A stand-by staunch and true, With timbers to outlast each gale That sweeps the waters blue! Sail on, sail on! God speed to thee, And prosperous breezes share; May distant years greet thee with cheers, Thy harbours all be fair. — Yours truly,

HOEACE ST. GEORGE,

(Happy St. Georges),
