March 24. — Since nry last the weather hai been very fine and dry, with w.:rm, sunny days ' and occasional cold nights. During the past few days some very welcome rain has fallen, which has softened the parched ground, ana must have done on imme.ise amount of gooa to the crops. A ' Races.— A larg* number, of visitors from all parts of the country gathered together to wit- , ness the Eanfurly races and sports. Some vary long hop, step, and jumps were recorded, the longest feeing 43ft, made by Mr J. Slater. Tlie_ presence ol a cow on the course during flip Plurry Scurry race somewhat mancd the finish. Two of the ' horses collided, with the beast, throwing their riders. Luckily only slight injuries were susj tamed, and beyond a sprained ankle in the ca?e of one and a general shaking in that of the othei, the riders were none the worse for their j adventure.
