LAND BOARD.

A meeting of the Land Board was held yesterday, and attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman), Dallas, Clark, Kirkpatrick, and Duncan.

Wm. Henry Lewis applied for a renewal of his yearly lease to occupy three acres adjoining sections 43 and 44, block V, Otakia district. — Application granted on former terms, with license fee £1 Is.

The Waitaki County Council applied to have section 18, block 11, Maerewhenua district, vested in the council as a gravel reserve. — Consideration deferred for report.

Ranger Mackenzie reported on the application by Thomas M'Donnoll for a license to occupy the- reserve between the Arrow River and the Avrovtown Extension. — Consideration deferred for further information.

The Under-secretary for Lands wrote in regard to an application by Donald Sutherland to be allowed to acquire an area of about six acres, adjacent to his house on Run 493, Cledclaxi River. — To be allowed to acquire for cash at £1 per acre, subject to payment of survey fees.

Macalister Bros, withdrew their application on behalf of F. T. Boys for a lease over a portion of quarry reserve, section 21, block IV, Suttou district. — Noted.

Assistant-ranger O'Niell forwarded a report en section 6, block XIII, Rimu district, recently held by S. J. Duniop. — For notification at reduced capital value of 7s 6d, with valuation for improvements, .£299 15s. The Waikouaiti County Council forwarded a statement of propossd expenditure of "thirds" and "fourths" for period October 2 to December 30, 1899. — Proposed expenditure approved. ,

Michaei O'Connor reqtiested that he be allowed to plough and sow down in grass sections 8, 9, 12 to 17, block XXVII, Town of Herbert, at piesent held by him under yearly license. — Approved. Assistant-ranger' O'Neil". rsx:>orted that the following selectors had not complied with the residence conditions of their leases: O'ames Berry, section 27, block II; James Berry, section 30, block II; Annie Kennedy, section 32, block II; Wm. M'lnteer, sections 33, 34, 35, and 36, block 11, all in the Glenomaru district. —Required to show cause to the board within one month why leases should not be forfeited for non-compliance with residence conditions.

Assistant-ranger O'Neill forwarded a "report on the application by C. Gwyn to surrender his lease in perpetuity over section 32, block IV, Glenomaru district. — Surrender accepted for notification at reduced capital value of 10s with valuation for improvements £225 5s 6d. Rangers Hughan and Atkinson reported on the petition from settlers in Mount Hyde district that Run No. 185 might be subdivided, and opened for settlement. — Run to be opened, at 6d an acre rental, as a small grazing run as formerly advertised, licenses held by D. Macdonald and others over 4250 acres and by Duncan Macdonald over 570 acres "in blocks IV and V, Mount Hyde district, to be terminated. A yearly license under section 116 of the act to be granted to J. Harris»i over sections 9 and 10, block V, rent £5; and a similar license to Murdoch Graham over sections 31 and 37, block IV, and sections 8, 10, and 11, block V, rent £7 10s, with license fee in each case, £1 Is.

The board was requested to determine as to how sections 9, 10, and 11, block IX, and section 1, block XI, ELuriwao district should now be dealt with. — Mr Begg to bo offered year's license over sections referred to from Ist March 1900 to 28th February 1901, at a rental of fourpence halfpenny per acre Thos. Chalmer, on behalf of Wm. Barnetson, applied to be allowed to acquire about 200 acres, being part of section 9, block XII, Strath Taieri district. — Declined. Donald Reid and Co., on behalf of John Garnett, jun., applied for a license to occupy par!, of section 35, block IV, Mount H-yde district. — Referred to ranger for repoit. The following applications were approved: — Jasper Newman, allotments 23 and 24, Janefield settlement ; Wm, Rogers, soction 16, block V, Woodland district; R. J. Cotton, sections 31 to 33 inclusive, block IV, Waipori district ; Annie M'Go\'crn, section 22, block VI, RauklcImin district; D. Conly and W. G. Brown, section 17, block V, Woodland di&lrict; Arthur Sloddait, section B, block XIII, Riiuu district, R P. Galbreath, section 3, block XIII, Rimu district; Emily Allan, section 31, block 11, Otakia district; Henry K-iely, sections 2 of 19,

and 21, block 11, Otakia district; James Hewitt, sections 18, block VIII, and 14, block XIII, Tuapeka West district; and James M. Thomson, section 14, block 11, Catlins district. Miss E. JR. Benjamin, on behalf of Robeit, Wm., and Thomas Dowie, applied for time for rerccval of crops from sections 56, 60, and 61, block V, Strath Taieri district. — The board expressed the opinion that as the land would not probably be opened before three months, the applicants would have sufficient time to remove the crop. The applications by Agnes Galbreath and Lucy Draper to surrender sections 14, block XIII, Rimu district, and 37, block VII, Glenomaru district, respectively, were referred to ranger for report. An application to transfer deferred payment license over section 21, block VIII, Kurow district, from the executors of the late Robert Curiningham to Wm. Cunningham was approved. <•
