MILTON.

February 12. — For the past five or six years or more there has been an annual discussion amongst those interested in athletic i/iatters on the question of laying down a pioper cycling track. Unfortunately the talk indulged in never fructified into action and the cycling events at thu annual sports have had to take place on the most primitive of tracks. The greatest difficulty in the way of obtaining a proper track has been the want of suitable ground. On several occasions it seemed as if this obstacle was to be overcome; but difficulties always arose and negotiations had to be broken off Now, however, a step in advance has been made Those interested approached the Farmers' Club with the view of obtaining the club's show ground foi the purpose. As a result representatives from that body met delegates from the Caledonian Society and Cycling Club on the ground on Wednesday, and went into the pros and cons of the matter. Arrangements were so far advanced that those interested in the proposed track were asked lo lay a definite proposal before the next meeting of the club. The proposal will probably inchide the leasing or the club's gioiinds for a term of years and in all likelihood this will be agreed on. With the expenditure of about £100 it is expected that a track equal to that possessed by any country town in the colony can be laid down.
