(1) A Kail way Guard in Cape Colony. All the railway line from Cape Town to Arnndel (589 miles) is guarded by a soldier every two miles,- and there is a gang of about 100 men every 10 miles. (2) The New Zealanders in a tight corner at Jasfontein. Troopers Bradford and Parker were wounded in this encounter, one horse was killed, and four were wounded. (3) Horse holders at the Jasfontein Affair. " The bullets rattled on the galvanised iron roof of the building, terrified the horses, -and gave the men plenty to occupy their attention with." -J.E.M.
