AjST- ADJUDICATED END GAME. (Auckland Weekly News.) It will be remembei"ed that in the last match between the Auckland Chess Club and a combined Waikato team, among the unfinished games submitted to the verdict of the Hon. John Bryce was one 'between Mi H. Hemus (White), Auckland, and Mr Mahon (Black), Waikato. The position on the face of it looked as if the latter, at any rate, would have been let off with a draw. Bixt M» Bryce declared it a win for Auckland, and, learning that his decision created considerable surprise in Waikato, he offered to play the game out by correspondence with the players of that district. Of course th. adjudicator cannot allow the comae jmrsued to be taken as a precedent, otherwise it would have the effect of greatly adding to the duties involved in the acceptance of such responsibility. The game has been concluded, and Mr Bryce has substantiated his verdict. The position submitted -was very interesting, and stood as under: —
might have been varied, but it does not appear that ihe result would have been different.
