CASUALTIES.
Charles Furlong, woolelasser. died suddenly at Ngahauranga, Wellington, on Thursday night. Ann Phow, a widow, was found dead in her bed at Milton on Thursday morning. ■Death is supposed to have resulted from natural causes. Mr Oswin, an elderly gentleman, engaged in the Land Tax department, was seized with a fit at Wellington on Thursday, and died on Saturday. Mr Wisneski,' a settler at Momona, suffered a severe loss on Tuesday night by the burning of his houpe. The building, a small one, was Quickly consumed, not a piece of furniture being saved. Mr Wisneski's loss is a severe one, as he had put all his past savings into Ihe property. His loss is estimated at £160, and is not covered by insurance. The death is announced of John Wilson, one of the original settlers of Southland. In 1856 he walked to Dunedin and back to secure land at Waianiwa, being a month on the journey.
