The time which brings to an end the opportunity for securing the full set of this great reference library, on payments of a guinea a month, offered to residents of New Zealand, Avas neoessarily limited, as announced when the proposition AA'as fust published. The Times regrets that it must close an enterprise Avhioh. proved to be- mutually beneficial in a marked degree, but with the regret comes a feeling of satisfaction- that it has been able to further the cause of education by sending to so manyhomes the 25 volumes of Avhat is acknoAvledged to be the broadest and greatest literary Avorfc of the century — the " Encyclopaedia Britannica."

From first to last nothing but Avords of approval and encouragement have been heard regarding the educational enterprise forAvarded by the Times, and letters of commendation <from all classes of society haA r e been received* Tuesday, February 20, is the lastday on Avhich the "'EncyclopEedia Britanniea." can be secured on the liberal terms embodied in the offer.

It is needless to enlarge on the merits and A r alue of the Britannica. The work is too Avell known, it has been the standard reference library for too many years to require any flambuoyant praise. There is this to say, hoAVeA r er, the Times has made " Encyclopaedia Britannica." household Avords, for prior to the day the - Encyclopaedia proposition Avas announced the Avork Avas to be found only in the libraries of the rich classes, colleges, and schools. To-day it is in the homes of manyhundreds of the residents of New Zealand, and its perusal there must prove a continual source of pleasure and profit to all members ai the household.
